Workshop | Decal Decoration | Sarit Cohen

Join Artist Sarit Cohen at Craft + Design Canberra, and get hands on creating your own personalised, porcelain cup. Inspired by the geometric designs from the Art Deco movement, Sarit will lead you through composition, colour and pattern concepts, and teach step by step decal application on a selection of pre-made bisque fired cups. Get creative and bring new life to a simple object in this unique making by hand workshop. 

After the class these cups will be fired with a clear glaze and will be available for collection a week after the workshop, food safe, and ready to make its home in your kitchen!

Arist Biography 

Sarit Cohen is a graduate of the ANU School of Art (Ceramics). She completed her Diploma of Education (University of Canberra) and in this period was awarded the Doug Alexander Memorial Award for Decorative Surface. She has completed residencies in Denmark, Switzerland and China. These opportunities have significantly contributed to her work in the areas of porcelain manipulation and casting. She has contributed to numerous group and survey shows over the last 20 years, both nationally and internationally, notably in the USA, Denmark, Hungary and Israel. Her works are held in private and public collections in these countries. Cohen’s work bears the influence of her childhood spent in Israel, and of her Turkish and Indian heritage. Her memories of the desert, its surfaces and dry atmosphere are constantly evidenced in her objects. Together with an increasing curiosity about her Indian background, these form the basis of her research. 

 She says of her work ‘I feel very much rooted in ceramic history and I am very devoted to and dependent on my material and love the physical part of the whole 
process with clay and firing.
