Artist Bio:
Artist Sharon Peoples was born in Melbourne, Australia, into a family that encouraged creativity and making. From a young age, sewing and embroidery became her lifelong passion. Her work primarily explores themes related to the body with a focus on strong decorative elements. Over the past fifteen years Sharon has constructed machine embroidered textiles using soluble fabric to make lace-like structures. These structures are the vehicle for the narratives of life’s complexities. Sharon Peoples has worked as an artist in Canberra for over 20 years, exhibiting nationally and internationally as well as taking on commissioned work. Her work has been collected by the National Gallery of Australia, the National Museum of Australia, the Parliament House Art Collection, and state institutions.
