Workshop: Planning Your Native Garden
Event description
We invite you to join our Native Garden Workshop! In collaboration with Purdue University Extension, participants will learn from John Hamilton and Janet (Jan) McGowan, members of Wild Ones South Bend. This organization promotes native landscapes and the wildlife that depends on them by connecting people with native plants. Their presentation will address the challenges created by America’s fascination with traditional lawns. Discover how to reverse this trend and how using native plants can enhance the life and beauty of your yard. This event is ideal for anyone planning to plant gardens this spring, whether you’re part of a homeowner's association or a novice gardener. Learn how to successfully incorporate native plants into your garden!
John Hamilton is a long-retired trial/appellate lawyer and recent convert to the idea that native plants are the foundation for all life, including us humans. A.B., U. of Notre Dame (1964); Ll.B., Harvard Law School (1967).
Jan McGowan is an Interpretive Naturalist for the St. Joseph (IN) County Parks. Her passion is education and sharing her wonder for the natural world that sustains life, including US. As Speakers Bureau Coordinator for Wild Ones South Bend, she derives great satisfaction in helping spread the word that we all have a role to play in restoring native flora when and where we can. We are our own best hope!
This event is underwritten by the City of Warsaw Stormwater Utility.
