Whether this is your first time, or you’ve applied for grants in the past, this FREE workshop will help you gain a better understanding of the grants process and what it takes to write that winning grant!

Write on the Money is proudly presented in partnership by Helpmann Academy and Carclew and has been created especially for emerging artists and creatives from all disciplines.

Offering essential tips and tricks and invaluable first-hand knowledge from successful applicants, this grant writing workshop is not to be missed!

This practical, informative session covers all areas of the grant application process, from securing support, to summarising your project, responding to criteria, and conquering your budget.

You will learn how to write an application that makes the selection panel sit up and take notice.

Industry experts from Helpmann Academy and Carclew will offer their insights on what it takes to write a successful grant application, and the opportunities this can unlock for you to launch your career.

The Write on the Money workshop also includes a Q&A panel discussion with emerging artists – Gemma Salomon, Chloe Noble and Danielle Lim – who have received funding from both Helpmann Academy and Carclew.

  • For emerging South Australian artists, applying for grants with Helpmann Academy or Carclew or both!
  • It is strongly recommended you attend Write on the Money if you are considering applying for a Helpmann Academy Creative Investment Fellowship or a Carclew Project and Development Grant in 2023

MEET THE PANEL

GEMMA SALOMON
Gemma graduated from Flinders University with a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Drama). She is a South Australian Screen Award winner, who has directed independent short films, as well as video content for Adelaide production company Adelaide Film Works. Her first short film A Dance in the Garden Reminds Me (2012) won Best Non-Narrative Film at the South Australian Screen Awards. Working in both the commercial sector and the arts, Gemma has ten years industry experience. After her production roles on The Babadook (2014) and Charlie’s Country (2014) she went on to associate produce the ABC documentary Robert McFarlane: The Still Point (2017) and direct the independent shorts Bad Girl (2018), and They Come For Us (2022). In 2023 she will direct Future Eaters, a horror short written and directed by Salomon and supported by the Helpmann Academy. She is currently in the 2023 cohort of Helpmann Academy’s Creative Innovator program.

CHLOE NOBLE
Chloe is an emerging visual artist, working primarily in water colours, oils and acrylics often creating expressionist portraits, figurative paintings and impressionist landscapes. She has recently expanded her practice, delving into the worlds of video, digital and installation art. Chloe graduated with a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual Arts) from Flinders University. She was a Sharehouse Resident in 2022 at Carclew House and Chloe is a frequent workshop assistant and facilitator, delivering arts workshops for youth through Carclew with their Youth Arts Program at Pom Pom SA. Chloe was part of The Stobie Pole Project 2022 which included mentoring over six-months with established artist Dave Court, culminating in the installation artworks on a series of stobie poles.

DANIELLE LIM
Danielle graduated from Flinders Drama Centre with a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Honours). She has performed in a range of roles during her time at university. Since graduating, she has been involved with ActNow Theatre, performing in the role of Mille for their school show, Like Me, Like You, which explores the variety of cultures within Australia and the notion of racial identity. She made her professional theatre debut at RUMPUS Theatre, playing the titular role in Dora Abraham’s Coldhands. Danielle received a Helpmann Academy Creative Development Grant to support her adaption Van Badham’s 2004 play, Bang On The Nerve. Danielle looks forward to telling more Asian-Australian stories on stage as well as screen, hoping to inspire more Asian-Australians to pursue a career in the arts.
