Workshop: Supporting Grieving Children
Event description
Join us for an insightful online workshop designed to help caregivers, educators, and child care professionals support grieving children with compassion and confidence. Together, we will learn practical tools to navigate conversations about loss, recognize the unique needs of children at different developmental stages, and identify ways to create a safe space for healing.
This workshop is facilitated by Rashida Sanchez, a licensed social worker and grief educator.
This is an interactive and virtual workshop that will take place over two sessions, and participants should plan on attending both dates:

The workshop fee includes the cost of both virtual sessions as well as digital materials. The workshop Zoom link will be emailed to participants one week prior to the first session.
Topics to be covered include:
- How grief is experienced in children and teens versus adults
- How developmental stages, families, and environments can impact children’s understanding of grief
- Therapeutic interventions for grieving children
- Identifying words that help or hurt when considering childhood grief
- Exploring the role of memorials and rituals in helping to process grief and honor the life of the deceased
About the presenter
Rashida Sanchez is the Outreach and Engagement Manager and a Sibling Group Facilitator for COPE. She is a licensed social worker and a certified Fellow of Thanatology through the Association of Death Education and Counseling. In her career, Rashida has facilitated a variety of bereavement groups including those for children and teens. She also counsels individuals utilizing one-to-one grief support and trains professionals and community members on various bereavement related topics. She recently established her organization AnchorGrief, focused on grief education, validation and community. Rashida is passionate about viewing grief from immigrant and social justice perspectives. Her research incorporates the experiences of children and adolescents, immigrant populations, and faith communities.
