Event description

Join contemporary watercolour artist, Tanya Baily for two 3-hr fun and fast sessions, giving you the tools and confidence to record your travel memories with watercolour. Learn to capture light, mood and the essence of a subject in a minimum of time.

Day 1: 10.30am - 1.30pm

The workshop begins with structured exercises. Students will revise essential watercolour techniques such as laying colour washes, colour mixing and efficient limited palettes. Working from images supplied by Tanya, students will work on developing a language of shorthand descriptions for objects and textures. We will discuss materials, sketchbook options and sketch kits.

Day 2: 10.30am - 1.30pm

Students will practice making small paintings in watercolour, working from images of their own or from life inside and outside the studio. Tanya will be working individually with each student and at their own pace. The emphasis will be on managing time and materials and on developing one’s own style.

This workshop is suitable for beginners to watercolour and for more experienced artists. Some basic drawing experience would be handy.

All materials are provided (although participants are welcome to bring their own existing sketchpad & favoured materials)

Please bring:

  • - Images / reference material for Day 2: up to 6 holiday photos
  • - Apron and your own refreshments
