Event description

WORKSHOP: Writing To Be Heard with Waffle Irongirl.

This workshop is part of the REGIONAL REMIX by Poets Out Loud: a dynamic event series bringing high-profile poets on tour to the Tweed region. Each event features a change-making Australian poet, followed by a community workshop with the visiting poet.

About the workshop:

Most of us hope that our words will be received by a reader or audience with impact and intention. That our poetry will convey the rhythms of our heart, the music we hear in the inner ear. This workshop takes participants through a series of discussions and exercises on how to:

  • write for the “ear”,

  • use rhythm and sound to enhance meaning;

  • and edit with the reader / audience in mind.

This workshop is suitable for:

  • Beginners and experienced writers / poets.

  • Ages 15+ unless by prior arrangement.

About the facilitator:

Es Foong / Waffle Irongirl is a poet and performer living on the lands land of the Kulin people. They write about strange geographies of belonging.  Their poems have appeared in Rabbit Poetry, Kalliope X, Best of Australian Poems 2022 and long-listed in the University of Canberra Vice Chancellor’s Poetry Prize 2023. They’ve featured on stages including Queensland Poetry Festival 2022 and Canberra Poetic City 2023.  Their poetry collection from Recent Work Press is called “Clot and Marrow”.
