Workshopping With: Jack da Silva #2

Workshopping With is our latest virtual programming series, led by artists and educators on a variety of topics. Board members Kristi Zevenbergen, Kay Stauffer, Maru Lopez, Michael Brehl, Jessica Andersen, and Sarah Darro will lead Session 2. In addition to our board members, guest presenter Jack da Silva will lead two Workshopping With sessions.

Synclastic & Anticlastic Forming
Sat. Oct. 19 @ 2 p.m. ET

As a follow-up to da Silva's first class, "Pattern Development," Synclastic & Anticlastic Forming will directly delve into the amazing plasticity and possibilities of manipulating sheet metal with a hammer. During this workshop, you'll explore appropriate annealing, beneficial sequencing, and selective work hardening to optimize experimentation and progress in jewelry and other objects. 

Instructor Bio: 

Jack da Silva owns and operates Jack da Silva’s Metal Arts Studio. He is a Jewelry & Metal Arts (JMA) Instructor at City College of San Francisco in California. Jack recently received a grant through the California Virtual Campus-Online Education Initiative to develop a Fully Online JMA credit course as a certified Online Instructor. He guided designs for the new JMA Lab in the CCSF-STEAM building, scheduled to open in 2025. 

da Silva is a third-generation gravestone maker from a family business of over 110 years. He has served for over 14 years on numerous nonprofit Board of Directors, including SNAG. Jack has researched and developed a curriculum incorporating ancient and traditional metalworking techniques. His personal artwork is found in permanent collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, UK, Museum of Modern Art, Seoul, South Korea, Churches in Madeira, Portugal, Indianapolis Museum of Art, IN, Appalachian Center for Craft, TN, Sonny Kamm Teapot Foundation, NC, City Council Chambers, Oakland, CA and other public art installations in Ohio and California.
