Worm Farms for Food Waste Management Workshop
Event description
Invitation ((Tom is only here in the HV for a short visit- do not miss out)
Worm Farms play a key role in waste management and diversion, supporting broader sustainability initiatives and circular economy goals.
Brokenwood Wines has purchased a single Worm Mod (via EPA Bin Trim Rebate program) from Worms Down Under as part of our waste management plan & in preparation for the FOGO ( Food organics, Garden organics) mandate coming in for all NSW Restaurant & Cafes being rolled out from mid-2026.
This single Worm Mod can divert up to 7.3 tonnes of organic waste per year, transforming food and organic scraps into valuable worm castings and liquid fertilizer, reducing landfill reliance, and closing the loop on organic waste.
We are lucky to have Tom Symmons from Worms Down under here at Brokenwood Wines on Friday, 17th October to discuss all things Vermicomposting or Worm Farming & answer any questions you may have about setting one up at your site or venue.
Time: 9:30am-10:30am
Date: Friday, 17th October 2025
Where: Brokenwood Wines Cellar Door
About Tom Symmons: Operations and Manufacturing Manager at Worms Downunder
Tom has a passion for regenerative farming practices. His connection to the land was cultivated during time spent on his grandparents' sheep station as a young child. At Worms Downunder, he's at the heart of our operations, overseeing the production of high-quality worm castings, and leading our brewing and manufacturing processes. Tom left his career as an electrician to join the family business, bringing a fresh perspective and unique ideas to WDU.
