Heritage Day

Metropolitan Memorial Parks invites you and your family to embark on a captivating journey through time at Woronora Memorial Park's Heritage Day. Discover the history and heritage of the park and some of the notable locals who have been laid to rest there. 

Explore the activities available during the day, including:

• Tour through the historic crematorium on a guided tour, where our knowledgeable team will uncover intriguing facts about cremations.
• See our historical artefacts, featuring original photos, documents, and objects unearthed during the chapel renovations.
• Observe vintage vehicles and explore machinery used at Woronora Memorial Park - from 19th-century hearses to modern digging equipment.
• Explore information stalls from local community and historical groups.
• Join guided walking tours to learn about the key events and people that shaped the Shire's vibrant history.

Tour schedule:

• Crematorium and history tours: Tours run on the hour, 10:30am, 11:30am, 12:30pm, 1:30pm, 2:30pm. 
  
• Sutherland Shire Military History tours: Tours run on the hour, 10:30am, 11:30am, 12:30pm, 1:30pm, 2:30pm.
• Australian Plant Society tour: 3pm.

Tours depart from the front of the South Chapel. Tours are free but spaces are limited.

Getting here:

Sydney Tramway Museum's Vintage Bus arrives and leaves from the Adelong Street gates near Celeste Cottage Cafe on the hour at 10:05am, 11:05am, 12:05pm, 1:05pm and 2:05pm. There will be a 4-minute level, paved walk to the crematorium from the bus stop.

Parking is available throughout the park and near the chapels. Event signage at the park will direct you to the event.

This is an all-access event and suitable for people of all ages and abilities.

Please wear enclosed walking shoes, and bring sunscreen, a hat, and a refillable water bottle.

Event photography and videography will be taken on the day. If you do not wish to appear on camera, please kindly inform the Metropolitan Memorial Park staff on site.
