Would your aged care home be ready?
Description
If your aged care home faced an emergency, would you know what would happen next?
What happens if residents need to evacuate? How will families be kept informed? How will medications, mobility and individual care needs be managed if services are disrupted?
Join COTA Queensland for a free online webinar bringing together lived experience, residential aged care and disaster recovery expertise.
Designed for older people, aged care residents, families and carers, this practical conversation will explore what emergency preparedness means for the people living in residential aged care and the people who care about them.
Hear from three perspectives
Dr Desley Marshall | Lived experience
Desley’s mother, Eileen, experienced three evacuations from her residential aged care home during major flooding. Desley will share what those experiences meant for Eileen and her family.
Nick Ryan | Residential aged care provider
Nick is CEO of Lutheran Services, a Queensland provider of residential aged care and other community and human services. He’ll share the provider perspective on preparing for emergencies, supporting residents and maintaining care and communication when disruption occurs.
Annabelle Johnstone | Human and Social Recovery Practitioner and Churchill Fellow
Annabelle’s Churchill Fellowship investigated the human and social impacts of disasters on aged care facilities and their residents. She’ll share insights from her research and what residents and families should know before an emergency.
What will we talk about?
We’ll explore practical questions such as:
What emergency plans should an aged care home have in place?
What happens if residents need to evacuate?
How will residents and families be kept informed?

How are medications, mobility and individual care needs managed?
What can residents and families ask their aged care provider before an emergency?
There will also be an opportunity to ask questions during the webinar.
