WRIQ Webinar (June 2023) - Respirable Crystalline Silica - What you need to know

This event has passed Register

Event description

On 1 May, Queensland introduced its ‘Managing respirable crystalline silica dust exposure in construction and manufacturing of construction elements Code of Practice 2022’. While this Code only applies to dust exposure in construction and manufacturing activities, it has highlighted a range of concerns for the waste management and recycling sector with regards to worker exposure to respirable crystalline silica.

Dust containing respirable crystalline silica (RCS) is generated by high-energy processes such as cutting, sawing, grinding, drilling, polishing, scabbling and crushing of silica-containing materials. The waste management and recycling sector (particularly C&D recyclers) however receive RCS dusts directly from manufacturers, demolition sites and a range of other sources including household bins.

This session will cover:

  • RCS (and other dust) health hazards
  • WHS Legislative requirements for managing occupational exposure risks to RCS and other airborne contaminants
  • Background to the development of the Managing respirable crystalline silica dust exposure in the stone benchtop industry Code of Practice 2019 and Managing respirable crystalline silica dust exposure in construction and manufacturing of construction elements Code of Practice 2022

We hope you can join us.
