Write About Now: Performances of Ideas
Description
The Write About Now Performance of Ideas is an evening of live words, lived experience, and urgent performance, as part of the Write About Now Festival at The Wollongong Workshop Theatre.
This program brings together three distinct but connected strands of contemporary storytelling: local poets sharing new and in-development work, original performance from The Dire Theatre Company’s To Kill a Tyrant: Love Letters and Manifestos After the Fact, and Vox Populi, a piece of original verbatim theatre built directly from community voice.
Across the night, poetry meets testimony and performance meets public sentiment. Local poets open the space with work that is immediate, personal, and grounded in place. To Kill a Tyrant steps into imagined afterlives of political violence, where familiar figures speak back through fractured justification. Vox Populi gathers the words of the community itself, performed back by actors as a collective reading of what we, the Illawarra, are saying.
Together, the works form a single conversation about power, voice, responsibility, and the act of speaking about now, now.
