Join Casey Gray for this 1-hour Plot Play workshop online.
Learn how to write fun and easy to read stories using easy language writing styles like Easy Read.
Easy Read is a way of writing that makes words simple and clear so everyone can enjoy them.
Who is this workshop for?
- Adults with intellectual disability who want to write stories.
- Easy Read writers who want to learn how to use Easy Read for fictional storytelling.
- Any writer’s interested in learning to write for children and adults with intellectual disability.
No writing experience is needed. You can bring a support person / story helper to participate in activities.
What will we do?
- Read an Easy Read book together.
- Try a fun creative thinking activity.
- Start writing your own story using easy language like Easy Read.
Why join?
By the end of this workshop you will have the outline of your own short story that focuses on making it accessible to adults with intellectual disability. You will also have helpful writing tips to help you keep going!
You will be encouraged to enter your story in the Jennifer Burbidge Short Story Award 2025 from the Williamstown Literary Festival. This competition offers a $500 prize for writing about disability in an Australian setting.
Key details for the competition:
- Open to writers across Australia.
- Stories can be fiction or non-fiction (up to 3,000 words).
- Entry fee: $15.
- Submissions close: 7 March 2025.
- Shortlisted entries will be published in the festival anthology.
