Description

Discover what tools every creative writer needs in their toolbox, and how to use them.

Writing is a craft as well as an art, and just like any other craftsperson, a writer must master the tools of their trade. Learn what tools you need and how to wield them (and why every writer needs a fishing net, a magnifying glass, a cone of silence, a whip, a sword, a cauldron, and a tightrope.)

This is a course for both aspiring writers wishing to acquire the tools they need and for established writers wanting to help keep their tools free of rust.

Learning outcomes

As part of this workshop, participants will learn more about:

  • How to create a sentence that sings
  • Bringing characters to vivid and blazing life
  • Building a compelling plot that readers can't put down
  • How to weave together action, dialogue & description
  • How to start, how to keep on going, and how to end.

Format

This is an in-person workshop with a focus on writing craft; it will be held at State Library of Queensland. This workshop is suitable for writers of all levels and writing backgrounds.
