Description

A practical one-hour workshop for Clarence Valley businesses and not-for-profits

Got a project that could benefit from grant funding, but not sure where to start — or how to give your application the best chance of success?

Join Pip Close, Coordinator Economic Development & Tourism at Clarence Valley Council, for a free workshop designed to help local businesses and not-for-profits better understand the grant application process.

Grant applications can take considerable time and effort. Before you start writing, it pays to know whether the opportunity is right for your project, what the funder is really looking for, and what makes an application clear and convincing.

What you'll learn

In this practical session, Pip will step through the grant process from identifying the right opportunity through to submitting your application.

  • Check whether a grant is the right fit for your project and whether you're eligible to apply

  • Understand what funders are looking for and align your project with their objectives

  • Answer the key questions every strong application needs to address — why, what, who, how, when, where and how much

  • Build a realistic, balanced project budget, including quotes, co-contributions and in-kind support

  • Strengthen your case with evidence, stakeholder support and sensible risk planning

  • Avoid common grant-writing mistakes that can weaken an otherwise good application

  • Understand how applications are assessed and what assessors are looking for

You'll also see practical examples, including a project budget and risk register, to help turn the theory into something you can use in your own application.

Who should attend?

This workshop is designed for Clarence Valley businesses and not-for-profit organisations that are considering applying for grant funding — whether you're preparing your first application or simply want to improve the way you approach them.

You don't need to have a particular grant application underway to attend.

Presented by Pip Close, Coordinator Economic Development & Tourism, Clarence Valley Council

Pip will share practical guidance on approaching grant applications, from assessing an opportunity and planning your project through to preparing your budget, supporting evidence and final submission.
