Event description

The Writing to Heal Monthly Circles are a safe space for writers who are on a healing journey to come together and connect every month. Using writing as part of your therapeutic toolkit, the monthly circles give you the opportunity to:

  • Ask any questions you have about your writing and receive answers in a supportive environment with others on similar writing to heal journeys
  • Be in a safe space to:
    • Read out your writing and get feedback from the community
    • Brainstorm any challenges you’re facing in your writing
    • Express your thoughts and opinions about where you’re at in your journey
    • Air any emotions and feelings that are challenging you right now

In the circles, you will feel heard, supported and nourished as you will be in the company of others who understand where you are coming from. With an empathetic writing coach facilitating, you get to bounce your ideas, experiences and feelings off others. You don’t have to do it alone!

________________

As a writing coach, I’ve had the privilege of working with many writers over the years who’ve used writing to process their experiences. Here are just a few…

  • A man whose experience of cancer through the hospital system & treatments made him want to help others navigate the process with ease
  • A mother with a chronically sick child whose writing helped her process her grief and come to acceptance
  • A woman so traumatised after her relationship with a narcissist that she wrote about her experiences to help her come to terms with them
  • A woman working in a male-dominated profession who through her book is becoming an advocate for other women
  • A single man who wrote a thriller with a superhero to help him overcome severe childhood trauma
  • A woman confined to a wheelchair after a fall, writing to inspire others in similar situations

What people are saying...

I really liked the group dynamic, listening to others reading and to their stories, and getting to know them. I found all the resource material and the other information really helpful. What I learned in the sessions has helped me to advance to a point now that I’m confident to continue to write at a level where I’m enjoying my writing. It’s not hard work anymore. It was a great experience. Gail is very knowledgeable and she lives to help people with her professional writing advice—Dale L

Working with Gail to write my book was the best decision I could have made. Initially I was very dubious as to how someone could understand my vision let alone help with such a personal project, but Gail amazed me. She is worth every cent and I highly recommend her and her program.

Prior to working with Gail my head was full of the story, but I kept drawing a frustrating blank as to how to write it all in a way that not only told my whole complex story, but that flowed for the reader.

What I appreciated most was Gail’s innate ability to identify what I needed at any given stage of development. Some weeks I would be feeling hopeless but Gail unhesitatingly unjumbled both my written and spoken words, straightening them out in a logically transparent process, for me to begin work again with vigour, renewed by all the encouragement and support I needed to move forward.

While I have always felt the burning passion within me to write a book, Gail was the one who not only helped me pull it all together but who also did it in a way that was far better than I could ever have imagined. With her constant guidance, unwavering discipline, and fluid approach, I have managed to explore deep into the hidden recesses of my brain, turning my idea into something tangible I can be proud of. I believe, together with Gail, that I have created my own true ‘masterpiece’—Kaye L.

Disclaimer: The circles are not designed for people with deep, unaddressed trauma. I am a writing coach who over many years has worked with many people writing about their journey to healing; I am not a psychologist or a counsellor. Using writing to heal is about working towards closure of a trauma or challenging life experience.
