Writing Workshop Information Session
Event description
Recently, a concern about children's lack of engagement and skills in writing has featured in Australian media. At LBC, we find this fascinating, because, in the sites we partner with, there is no problem with children's engagement and disposition towards writing!
Writing Workshop is a rich and complex pedagogical approach. It is not a programme to be followed, but an approach that is concerned with helping every child to see themselves as a writer, constructing meaningful multi-modal texts with authenticity and creativity.
In Writing Workshops, we regularly hear:
"Noooo.....can we just have ten minutes more?"
"Are we having Bookmaking today?"
"Are we having Writing Workshop tomorrow? I've just got to a good part in my writing."
"I've got an idea for my next book!"
"I'm an author, you know. I'm making this book to read to my grannie on the weekend."
"I've started this idea in my Writer's Notebook at home, so I'll bring that notebook in tomorrow."
If you'd like to learn more about an evidence-informed pedagogical approach that seeks to amplify young writer's identity and sense of agency, register for our free information session. This session will focus on Writing Workshop in Primary Schools, using bookmaking and writer's notebooks.
Some of the areas we'll talk about include:
The predictable structure of a Writing Workshop
Mini lessons - clear, explicit and focussed teaching
Writing Conferences - clear, explicit, personalised and differentiated teaching
Organising the writing curriculum across the year in Genre, Process and Craft Studies
