Event description

Information session: Xylella emergency measures for host nursery stock material imported from China

We are hosting an information session to update stakeholders on the upcoming introduction of high-risk emergency measures for nursery stock material exported from China that are known hosts of Xylella (Xylella fastidiosa).

The measures will commence on 31 January 2025. Under these changes, host nursery stock material from China must undergo increased testing, treatment and pre-export certification.

This information session will cover:

  • overview of Xylella and evidence of its presence in China
  • transitioning from plant family to genus-level regulation under the Xylella emergency measures
  • new high-risk import conditions for China and associated transitional arrangements.

There will also be an opportunity to ask questions about the upcoming changes.

The changes to import conditions are being made in response to new evidence demonstrating that Xylella is present in mainland China. The changes will ensure that our regulations continue to be fit-for-purpose and keep Xylella out of Australia.

Who will be affected by the new measures?

The measures will affect importers of live plants (nursery stock) from China, customs brokers and departmental staff.
