About Yahya Is Home Alone:

In her first poetry collection, follow Yazmenne as she embarks on a turbulent journey through grief and loss. Each poem is a step in her journey toward acceptance, exploring the raw emotions and moments of solitude that come with loss, and the challenges of losing herself and finding herself again. Through her words, she navigates the darkness to reclaim herself and eventually find solace in past and present relationships. This poignant collection offers a glimpse into the complexities of mourning and resilience found in embracing the shadows of sorrow.

About Yazmenne Archer:

Yazmenne Archer (pronounced “yoz-mean”) is a native of New Jersey who, ironically, has never seen Jersey Girl. A poet and writer, she is no longer constrained by labels and is currently embracing her evolving identity as an author. Her debut poetrycollection, Yahya Is Home Alone came to life during her MFA studies in Creative Writing at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and further developed through Community Literature Initiative(CLI) 10-month poetry publishing program. Her work delves into themes of grief, loss, and personal address, with a central focus on self-reclamation.

For Yazmenne, art is a means of giving both to oneself and to others, and Yahya Is Home Alone is just the beginning of her journey as a published author. In addition to her writing, she has been published by Broken Lens Journal and she serves as the Youth Outreach Coordinator for Street Poets Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching healing through poetry to youth.
