Event description

The Eastern Kuku Yalanji tribe and Elders, proud members of the world’s oldest living and surviving culture, invite you to come and share pride and respect for our bubu (land), where the world’s oldest madja (rainforest) meets our pristine jalun (sea and reef), bana yarralji (fresh water), kija (moon) and jiri (sky).

Walk with our Elders and rangers and get to know them and the work they are doing protecting the oldest living culture and tropical rainforest on earth. This tour showcases the partnership between Rainforest Rescue and Jabalbina and the work we are doing together to protect one of the most precious places on earth.

This cultural adventure of a lifetime not only takes you through the ancient Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef but also to sacred and exclusive places by special invitation from Elders.

Take a journey through time from the dreaming when Yalanji land was created to Gondwana, 180 million years ago to today as Eastern Yalanji carry on their ancient connection. Travel by 4 wheel drive across all three Eastern Yalanji clan estates and see trees thousands of years old, rivers, waterfalls, sacred sites and of course snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef. Be ceremonially welcomed by elders into each leg of the journey. Take part in cultural practices and activities, learn language and lore and reimagine what world heritage really is.
