Event description

First Nations artists, curators and community are invited to join the Yalingwa First Nations Forum on Monday 28 August.

The Yalingwa First Nations Forum is conceived as a significant platform for First Nations curators and artists to come together to share their work and insights across generations and cultural perspectives. The program welcomes First Nations curators, artists and community and arts workers to connect and engage with First Nations peers through an afternoon/evening session featuring conversations, workshops and networking; alongside a curatorial walkthrough of ACCA’s current exhibition Tennant Creek Brio: Jurpanta Ngattu Minjinyba Iconocrisis, an artist collective living and working on Warumungu Country.

In its second year, the Yalingwa Forum is a unique opportunity for First Nations artists, curators and community in the Southeast to foster networks, encourage dialogue and build cross-cultural connections throughout Victoria. At the heart of the Yalingwa Forum is consideration of the role of the curator in relation to First Nations artists, communities and cultural practices, and a chance to address some of the challenges, opportunities and recent developments related to First Nations art and curatorial practices today.

Further details will be provided closer to the date. For enquiries about the program or questions about bursaries for local regional travel please contact Jessica Clark, Curator jessica.clark@acca.melbourne

This is a closed in-person session dedicated to First Nations participants.

This event is presented as part of ACCA's current exhibition Tennant Creek Brio: Juparnta Ngattu Minjinypa Iconocrisis, showing until 17 November 2024, and generously supported by Creative Victoria and Fayen D'Evie.
