Event description

Yard to Yield: Journey to an Edible Garden

This new event for 2025 is a 5-part series of skill shares.

Visit Ali's urban Ballarat property every 6-8 weeks through the year as she implements a permaculture design, turning the neglected backyard of her new home into a productive edible garden. The series of talks and demos will focus on seasonally relevant tasks, with Ali joined by guest speakers on occasion.

Session 2: Urban Food Forest and Plant Guilds

With first steps taken, to clear the overgrown site, outline the mandala garden design and building top soil in the first beds we now move on to plants. In this session, I'll be joined by BPG's Steve Burns to chat about:

  • Food Forest theory
  • Applying it to an urban garden space
  • Plant Guilds
  • Selecting edible perennials

This session is suitable for beginner Permies and gardeners starting their journey to growing food at home.

Future sessions will be advertised individually.
