Yard to Yield - Session 3
Event description
Yard to Yield: Journey to an Edible Garden
This new event for 2025 is a 5-part series of skill shares.
Visit Ali Manns' urban Ballarat property through the year as she implements a permaculture design, turning the neglected backyard of her new home into a productive edible garden. The series of talks and demos will focus on seasonally relevant tasks, with Ali joined by guest speakers on occasion.
Session 3: Maximising yield and diversity
Since session 2 in May, all seven beds in the mandala design have been built - in preparation for spring annual vegetables. Over the winter months, attention has moved to the garden's edges which have been designed with perennials and diversity mind. Lots of work has taken place so, at this session, we'll be catching up with a look at:
Structures for vertical growing
Espalier techniques for fitting multiple fruit trees in a small space
Berries, Berries, Berries
Preparing for the warmer months - sowing plans and irrigation
Feel free to bring: seeds, seedlings, surplus produce to share on the day.
Also, a snack plate to enjoy with a cuppa to celebrate Spring Equinox.
This session is suitable for beginner Permies and gardeners starting their journey to growing food at home.
Future sessions will be advertised individually.
