The YEP Project hosts Magenta: Supporting young people engaging in sex work.
Event description
YACWA's Youth Educating Peers (YEP) project hosts SHQ's Magenta service to deliver a free professional development session for Perth Youth Workers: Supporting young people engaging in sex work.
Magenta offers support, health services, education and information to female, male and transgender workers in the sex industry. Magenta provides outreach and in-house services to sex workers.
In late 2019 YEP surveyed over 100 young people (largely aged 16-25). We asked them about their sexual health educational needs. Out of almost 20 topics, young people surveyed identified sex work as their 4th most needed area of education (after communication techniques, healthy relationships, and sex and the law). As young people accessing youth services are therefore likely to require information and support about sex work, it is important that youth workers are skilled and informed in how to best support this need.
This professional development session will cover:
- Introduction to Magenta’s services / Introduction to sex work
- Sex work in society
- Tools for working with sex workers
- Working with young people who sell sex
- Common myths about sex work
- and more
