YIDAKI WORKSHOP WITH LARRY GURRUWIWI
Event description
Renowned didgeridoo master Larry Gurruwiwi returns to Sydney’s Northern Beaches to share the powerful sound of yidaki of Northeast Arnhem Land. Joining him is his brother, Vernon Gurruwiwi, a virtuoso in his own right.
Larry, son of legendary yiḏaki master Djalu Gurruwiwi, began his journey as a young child under his father's guidance. Today, he is celebrated both in Arnhem Land and internationally as a senior custodian of the didgeridoo. His style blends traditional Yolŋu techniques with dynamic, percussive rhythms that reflect contemporary expression. Following in his father’s footsteps, Larry is also exploring the potential of yiḏaki for health and wellbeing.
Whether you're a beginner, an advanced player, or simply curious about the cultural depth of the yiḏaki, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to learn from one of the world’s finest.
