Yiddish classes for all levels, online and in person.

Monday October 12 - Thursday December 10, 2026.
Please note that minimum enrolment numbers are required - classes may not run if minimum numbers not met.
You must be a Friend of Kadimah to join one of these groups ($36 per person year).
BEGINNERS
YIDDISH ALEF 2 - with ESTHER SINGER
The second term of our beginners group. We'll continue to improve our Alef-Beys, expand our conversation and learn to use the past and future tenses.
Monday 6:30pm - 8:00pm ONLINE
YIDDISH ALEF 4 - with ESTHER SINGER
For continuing beginners. This course follows on from Alef 3 and is suitable for students who have studied some Yiddish, can read in the Yiddish Alef-Beys and understand a simple conversation including past, present and future tenses.

INTERMEDIATE
YIDDISH BEYS with ESTHER SINGER
An intermediate class for 2nd year learners. This class focuses on exploring Yiddish songs and other texts, developing fluency, expanding vocabulary and cultural knowledge. This course is for you if you are comfortable reading Yiddish texts with some support and carrying on a conversation.
Monday 4:30pm - 6:00pm ONLINE
YIDDISH GIML with ESTHER SINGER
An upper-intermediate level class for those who have good comprehension and can read, write, and speak Yiddish. Read and discuss Yiddish texts while developing conversational skills and exploring advanced grammar and language topics.
Thursday 6:30pm - 8:00pm ONLINE
ADVANCED
SHMUEST UN LEYENT with ESTHER SINGER
An advanced study group meeting fortnightly in a small group to read and discuss literature, films, songs and poems while working towards fluency.
Tuesday 7:30pm - 9:00pm ONLINE FORTNIGHTLY
YIDDISH AMOL UN HAYNT with ALEX DAFNER
An advanced study group reading and discussing articles and contemporary happenings in Yiddish.

Monday 10:00am - 12:00pm ONLINE
MAME LOSHN with TOMI KALINSKI
Songs, poems, literature, and idioms to improve your Mame-loshn. For those are comfortable reading and shmuesing in yiddish.
Monday 6:30pm - 8:00pm IN PERSON

FAQs
- Where are classes held?
Most of our classes are taught online via Zoom but we also offer in person classes in Naarm (Melbourne).
- Are discounts available?
We offer scholarships, pensioner and health care card holder discounts available - please contact the Administrator for more information.
- What class is right for me?
There is no class for complete beginners in Term 4 but if you understand a little Yiddish and are familiar with the Alef-Beys you can join Alef 2.
