Yoga for Meditation
Event description
Did you know Yoga was originally for deepening meditation practice?
Its primary purpose was not physical fitness, but to prepare the body and mind for extended periods of stillness. The physical postures, known as asanas, were developed to cultivate a body that is both steady and comfortable (sthira and sukha). The practice of Yoga can eliminate physical restlessness and pain, which are seen as major obstacles to concentration.
By systematically pacifying the body and steadying the breath, a practitioner could naturally progress towards the deeper limbs of yoga: concentration (dharana) and ultimately, meditation (dhyana). In essence, the physical practice is the gateway to exploring the inner landscapes of the mind.
