Yoga, Sanskrit & Social Justice: Understanding the Politics of Practice
Event description
This workshop invites participants to explore the connections between Sanskrit, yoga, and power with fresh eyes and open minds. Through a lens of historical awareness and intersectionality, we’ll look at how caste, language, and culture have shaped yoga’s past and present, asking what it truly means to engage with this practice today. Participants will learn about Sanskrit’s role in, and impact on, South Asian spirituality and social structures, considering how these dynamics influence yoga. We’ll engage in critical conversations around the idea of “decolonising” yoga and explore the complexities it presents, sparking reflections that challenge and deepen our understanding. Expect a provocative, open-hearted session that prioritises dialogue and introspection. Attendees will leave with enriched perspectives, along with resources for ongoing learning beyond the workshop. Join us as we together move toward a more inclusive, thoughtful and honest yoga practice.
The workshop will be held via Microsoft Teams. The link will be sent via email 2 hours prior to the event.
The workshop recording will be sent to all participants after the event.
