Yonderia On the Beach
Event description
As the days begin to lengthen, the coastal waters warm, sending thousands of humpbacked leviathans on their journey south. So too will we migrate down from the mountains to the land where bush meets surf for Yonderia On the Beach.
On the 14th of October the liminal space, Yonderia, will transpire at Cave Beach, Booderee National Park. Pack your sequinned wetsuit and practice dancing in your bejewelled flippers as we prepare to embark on a sonic odyssey deep into the belly of the whale. We’ve booked out the entire campsite for Saturday night - 13 sites for 39 people. Tickets are limited.
What is Yonderia
Yonderia is an ever-changing land - no, a state of mind. A place over yonder, just within reach. It is a habitat of radical ideas, self-expression and inclusion, a place for beings of all genders, abilities and musical tribes; although sadly not pets. Consent and respect are essential.
Yonderia is the collaborative vision of all those who participate. Everyone is encouraged to bring a contribution to share; material, energetic, idyllic or otherwise. Contributions are as varied as they are delightful - perhaps a game, a meal, a song, a friend, some dress-ups to share, energy for conversation, or for the dance-floor.
Where
Yonderia is a dream with no fixed address, and this edition will appear at Cave Beach, Booderee National Park, on the lands of the Yuin people, where sovereignty was never ceded. Booderee National Park is co-managed by the Yuin people and a portion of ticket price goes toward funding of the national park.
Booderee park passes cost $13 per car for two days, and can be purchased upon entry at the ticket office or online.
We have booked the entirety of Cave Beach campsite for Saturday night. If you’d like to stay Friday or Sunday nights, book on the Parks Australia website, where you can also find more info on the space. All groups should have a designated driver in mind if they are leaving on Sunday.
Drop toilets and cold showers are available.
The campsite is a 300m walk from the carpark; bring muscles or a wheelbarrow to haul gear. Cave Beach is short walk from the campsite, with stairs. Unfortunately the site is not very mobility friendly. Get in touch if this is an issue, we can provide further info/possible solutions.
We are developing an environmental management plan and our initial research is showing that whales and birds will not be disturbed by this event.
Your ticket includes:
- camping - proceeds go to managing the Booderee national park. In the case of cancellation due to bad weather this portion will not be refunded.
- dinner - epic paella (vg, gf)
- music - DJs are donating their time and skills to the cause
- gear - all gear being used is owned by Yonderians, but ticket funds will cover expenses such as fuel and repair costs if they eventuate.
Any profits will go to charity: Half will go to Pro-ema, an institution that effectively contributes to the integral development of girls and young women in Timor-Leste. The other half will go to Effective Altruism Australia’s top ranked charity.
