Young Mathematician Program 2026

The Young Mathematician Program (YMP) 2026 is a free, immersive, hands-on program for Year 8–11 students who want to explore and experience how mathematical thinking solves real-world crises, drives massive businesses, and shapes the future.

Event Sessions and Schedule

• 17 November (Tue)

  • 4-5pm Stephan Tornier: The hidden algebra of symmetry: uncover one of mathematics most beautiful ideas.

  • 5-6pm Math-relay: Connect with like-minded students in a collaborative problem-solving showdown.

• 19 November (Thu)

  • 4-5pm Andreas Heinecke: How strong is the evidence? A mathematical investigation.

  • 5-6pm Inside Careers: Hear from UoN maths alumni about their journeys industry roles.

• 24 November (Tue)

  • 4-5pm Kirill Glavatskiy: The shape of data: Understanding distributions.

  • 5-6pm Inside Careers: Hear from UoN maths alumni about their journeys industry roles.

• 26 November (Thu)

  • 4-5pm Marcella Papini: What's best? How mathematics helps us make optimal decisions when there are too many possibilities to test.

  • 5-6pm Glen Livingston Jr: Making sense from uncertainty. From clues to conclusions.

While Nov 17 & 19 sessions are designed for years 8-9, and Nov 24 & 26 for years 10-11, we welcome all students to participate in the entire program, as each session covers unique material.

Participation is free and all sessions are different from last years sessions of YMP 2025.
