Description

AI has moved well beyond simply writing emails, social posts and basic content.

This practical workshop shows small business owners how to use AI as a more capable business assistant, helping with research, analysis, planning, documents, customer communication and repeatable business tasks. You will learn how to give AI better instructions, provide useful business context and turn everyday work into more efficient AI-assisted workflows.

Many small business owners are already using tools such as ChatGPT, but often only for simple one-off tasks. This workshop focuses on the next step: using AI to support real business processes.

Through practical demonstrations and hands-on activities, you will learn how to move from basic prompting to giving AI the context, files and instructions it needs to complete more useful work. You will also explore how AI can analyse information, assist with multi-step tasks and support repeatable workflows while keeping appropriate human oversight.

Outcome: Leave with a practical framework for using AI in your business, a reusable business context profile and an AI-assisted workflow you can continue developing after the workshop.

This workshop takes a practical, small business-focused approach to using AI as a business tool rather than simply a content generator.

Main Topics Covered:

  • Understanding how AI tools have evolved beyond basic chat and content creation

  • Writing clearer prompts using outcomes, context, constraints and required outputs

  • Using context engineering to help AI better understand your business, customers and goals

  • Working with business information such as documents, spreadsheets, customer reviews and notes

  • Using AI to research, analyse and identify business opportunities

  • Structuring multi-step tasks and giving AI a clear business brief

  • Identifying repetitive business tasks that could become AI-assisted workflows

  • Understanding where human review is still required

  • Managing common risks including inaccurate information, privacy and over-reliance on AI

Participants will complete practical activities throughout the session and develop at least one AI workflow based on a real task from their own business.

Suitable for: This workshop is suitable for small business owners, sole traders and managers who are already experimenting with AI or want to start using it more effectively in their day-to-day operations.

No advanced technical knowledge is required. The workshop is particularly useful for people who want to save time, improve how they work with information and move beyond using AI only for basic writing or marketing tasks.

Note: Maximum of 2 bookings per business.

Presenter: Rob Jefferson, SBDC Reginal Business Advisor from IPS Management Consultants.
