Your Habitat Is Already Alive: A Shared Conversation on Land, Community, Belonging and Life’s Intelligences

What if we understood habitat not simply as the land, buildings or environments around us, but as a living field of relationships between people, place and the more-than-human world?

Across communities, farms, schools, restoration projects and neighbourhoods, ecology, healing, education, economy and belonging cannot easily be separated. The places we inhabit are shaped by relationships — some strong and sustaining, some strained or forgotten, and others waiting to be restored.

In this facilitated conversation, Cari Taylor, creator of One Living System, invites us to slow down and notice what is already alive in the places we inhabit. Drawing on ideas from Living Cosmology and Life’s Intelligences, we’ll explore the relationships that sustain our habitats and consider what becomes possible when regeneration begins with listening rather than imposing a predetermined model or solution.

Rather than a traditional presentation, this session will create space for reflection, questions and shared conversation. Participants will be invited to consider their own relationships with people and place: What is already flourishing? What has become disconnected? What might be seeking repair or expression?

Together, we’ll explore habitat as something we don't simply live in, but something we actively participate within — and consider how our places might become more fully themselves when we learn to listen to the Life already present there.

Cari Taylor is the writer and creator of One Living System, a body of work exploring Life as a relational and participatory whole.

Through Living Cosmology, Field Companions, Educator Companions and children’s stories, Cari’s work invites people to recognise the patterns through which Life creates, sustains and regenerates itself, and to explore how those patterns might inform everyday life, education, land stewardship and community.

She is currently walking alongside emerging Living Cosmology expressions in France, Appalachia and Colombia, where land, ecology, healing, education and belonging are being explored as parts of one living field. At the heart of Cari’s work is a question about how places might become more fully themselves when we listen to, and participate in, the Life already present within them.
