    Event description

The tide is turning on menopause. Are you ready to learn more about how to navigate this life stage?

There is an unmistakable connection between menopause and mental well-being. We have brought together a panel of experts and women with lived experience to discuss how intricate this connection is.

Menopause, often seen as a biological transition, profoundly impacts our emotional and psychological state. At WHISE, we recognise the unmistakable link between menopause and changes in mental health, and we aim to provide a platform for these crucial conversations.

The perimenopausal and menopausal phases commonly bring about negative or anxious thoughts and diminished self-esteem. This is hardly surprising, given the potential onslaught of symptoms such as sleep disturbances, hot flashes, night sweats, and reduced libido. When these menopausal symptoms remain poorly understood by our families, healthcare providers, or workplaces, it can lead to feelings of isolation.

Our webinar is designed for community members navigating the perimenopausal or menopausal journey themselves or those supporting someone through this significant life stage. Like many other women's health issues, menopause and perimenopause often receive inadequate recognition. By advocating for ourselves, our family members, and friends experiencing menopause, we can contribute significantly to narrowing the gendered health gap.

Our panellists, experts and individuals with personal experiences will equip you with tools to comprehend the diverse spectrum of menopausal encounters.

    Join us to gain:

    • A comprehensive understanding of the relationship between menopause, perimenopause, and mental well-being
    • Knowledge of the support readily available to you
    • Understanding how to effectively speak up for yourself regarding menopause and your mental health in healthcare settings.

      Our panel includes:

Assoc. Professor Caroline Gurvich – Deputy Director of HER Centre Australia

Assoc. Prof Gurvich will speak to the relationship between brain health and mental wellbeing during menopause – demystifying the common experience of ‘brain fog’.

Cathy Halmarick - Nurse Practitioner at Peninsula Health

Cathy will draw on her clinical experience to discuss the resources and supports available to support mental wellbeing during perimenopause and menopause.

Kerry Strickland – Manager of Aboriginal Health Community at Monash Health Community & member of WHISE Menopause Working Group

Kerry will speak about her lived experience of mental wellbeing during perimenopause and menopause.
