Event description

Wesley Kids in collaboration with the COVID Recovery Border Community Service, funded by Queensland Health, is excited to be able to offer people living within the Gold Coast region who work with or are parenting young people aged from 11-14yrs the chance to complete Youth Mental Health First Aid Training. All costs to complete this course will be covered. Due to the high interest in this course spots will be limited to two participants per organisation.

This course, developed by Mental Health First Aid Australia, equips adults with the skills to recognise and respond to a young person who may be experiencing a mental health problem or crisis situation. Using a practical, evidence-based action plan, Youth MHFA teaches participants how to support a young person.

This is an education course that teaches adults about development and the signs and symptoms of common and disabling mental health problems in young people, including crisis situations.

Topics covered include depression, anxiety, psychosis, eating disorders, suicide and non-suicidal self-injury.

You will learn how and where to get help when a young person is developing a mental illness, what help research has shown to be effective and how to provide first aid.
