    Event description

    This one day interactive online training workshop will assist youth workers to develop their understanding of ethical practices - based on the Code of Ethics for Youth Workers in WA - and apply this knowledge in their work. 

    The training will introduce participants to the Code, and to the suite of materials developed by Youth Work WA and YACWA, aimed at embedding the Code in Youth Work practice, programs and organisations in WA. By the end of the workshops participants will be able to:

    • List the advantages and disadvantages of having a Code of Ethics
    • Discuss the principles of the Code of Ethics for Youth Workers in WA
    • Reflect upon their own ethical behaviour
    • Practice decision making using the Code
    • Develop ideas on how to ensure the Code is embedded in their own and their organisations work
    • Challenge unethical behaviour

    Participants will receive:

    • The Youth Work WA Code of Ethics with commentary
    • A poster version of the Code for display in their organisation
    • A poster of the Code of Ethics written especially for young people
    • A guide for the implementation of the Code in their organisation
    • A set of the Code of Ethics cards (valued at $25)

    About the Trainer:

    Zach Gibson

    Zach has been in youth work for more than 12 years, in areas including community development, outreach, business psychology and most recently lecturing/training. 

    He is the current vice-chairperson for the Youth Work WA committee, as a part of his ongoing desire for a stronger sector and more equitable practice within the youth work profession through the Code of Ethics.  

    Zach is currently a Youth Worker for YMCA WA and a casual lecturer in the Diploma of Community Development, as well as an Academic in the faculty for the Bachelor of Youth Work at ECU.
