Teen Yum Science is a fun, hands-on class where curious teens can explore the science behind food through practical experiments, cooking challenges and creative activities.
Each session combines real scientific concepts with delicious, interactive learning, giving teens the opportunity to investigate, create, problem-solve and work alongside others in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
No previous science or cooking experience is needed—just bring your curiosity, enthusiasm and willingness to have a go!
Lineup

20 October — Dead Zone: Edible Fossils & Palaeontology
Step into the fascinating world of palaeontology as we investigate fossils, dinosaurs and early life on Earth. Teens will uncover prehistoric clues, explore how fossils form and create their own edible fossils in this hands-on science session.

3 November — A Gut Feeling: The Science of Digestion
Put on your human-biologist lab coat and discover the amazing way our digestive system works. During Global Prebiotics Week, we will explore the microbes living in our gut, learn how different foods support digestive health and make a delicious prebiotic-rich dessert.

17 November — Don’t Get Lost in the Woods: Maps & Cartography
Leave the GPS behind and build practical navigation skills through map reading and cartography—the art and science of making maps. Teens will explore direction, scale, symbols and coordinates before completing a fun geography activity with an edible twist.

1 December — Sous Chef for a Day: Food Science in the Kitchen
Swap the lab coat for an apron and become a sous chef for the day! Teens will investigate the science and history behind a familiar everyday ingredient, develop practical kitchen skills and prepare delicious Vietnamese rice paper rolls to enjoy together.

15 December — Christmas Party: The Science of Chocolate
Celebrate the end of term with a very merry Yum Science Christmas Party! Teens will discover the fascinating science behind chocolate while creating festive treats, preparing gift bags and enjoying a grand afternoon tea filled with classic Christmas favourites.
