Zagazig
Event description
I saw her call for her mother... I thought it was strange.Â
On a night as warm as day time - but night time - Honey submits to the perfumes of fate. On a midnight quest to force a woman to be her mother, Honey is sucked into a cosmic fabric that tickles her, but that she can't understand. Each stitch she unpicks, each housemate that dies, each terrible disguise, each kidnap, each vision - each brings her where and for why and with who? As greater and greater forces dip their toes in her mouth, Honey is manipulated past the point of no return and spirals down beneath the hallucinated city she was born in. The cat! The snake! The child! A trick! A secret! And up rises the winter moon. And over flies you, a beautiful flock of baby birds. And there goes Honey; she gets tossed in the river all the same.Â
Zagazig is a gory and dreamlike chase through a nighttime Brisbane. An excavation of magical thinking. Action packed, music filled, loud, quiet and fast/slow - a theatre for the middle of the night but it won't be but PRETEND! PRETEND!

Zagazig is performed on the unceded lands of the Jagera and Turrbal peoples. We pay respect to elders, and acknowledge enduring sovereignty. VENTspace stands alongside Musgrave Park, which has long been an important meeting and ceremonial site for First Nations people. We pay our respects to the long history of that place, and honour the significance of performing near that place.
Always was, and always will be Aboriginal land.  Â
