Event description

What’s it all about?

Come and learn the basics of appliqué as practiced in Barmer, Rajasthan. As well as being a striking style of fabric decoration, it's also zero waste! You can use up all your old scrap fabric and create something new using this lovely peep-hole technique!

In this class we will learn various stitches and techniques on cotton fabrics. You will create a sample that can be framed, used as a
patch or can become part of a bigger project.

All materials will be provided. But bring along any favourite scrap fabrics or worn clothing if you want to incorporate them into your work!

Basic sewing experience can be helpful but not necessary as the stitches are simple and easy to follow.

What will we cover?

In this hands on class Manjari will cover:

  • History of Barmer appliqué
  • Different stitches, motifs, and fabrics
  • Sewing basics
  • Sewing your own piece of appliqué!
