FAQs

  • What is a zine?

The word 'zine' {zeen} comes from the word 'magazine'. It's a formate for self-publishing that has been used throughout history and across the world. The formate we know it as today emerged during the Harlem Renaissance.

This question will be explored in depth during the workshop!

  • Transport

This event will be held at Parramatta South Campus in Building EA, Level 1, Room 9. There are several ways to get here including light rail, car, train, and bus. Catch the train to Parramatta Station, and from there you can choose to walk 1 minute towards the Parramatta Square stop for the light rail. Make sure to cross to the platform furthest away from Parramatta Square, and onto the L4 light rail heading towards Carlington. Hop off at the Yallamundi stop and walk about 7 minutes up the footpath towards the back of Parra South, with a ramp and stairs being available at the gate.

To catch the bus instead take either the M52, 520, 521, 523, 524 or 525 from the bus stands right outside Parramatta Station and Parramatta Westfields, and hop off at the Victoria Rd opp Yallamundi bus stop facing campus. Cross the road and continue along the path for about 8 minutes, with another road to cross between the car park and the area in front of Building EA and EB.

If you are taking a car, take the James Ruse Drive exit off the M4. Entry is via Victoria Road. If you are driving Eastbound on Victoria Road and are in the left-hand lane, a safer way to access campus is to turn left at Bridge Street and use the overpass to enter Parramatta South campus. There is a car park (P1) at the front of campus and visible from Victoria Rd.
This is the largest lot on campus with two pay stations in the parking lot, one in the centre of the lot and another close to the pathway towards Building EA. Parking fees do apply, please visit here for more.

  • Campus

To get around campus, there is a digital map here, an accessibility map here, and a campus map here.

Building EA can be accessed by the stairs right at the entrance of the building facing Fifth St, the Oval, and the P1 car park. It can also be accessed via the stairs past Piccolo Me, and turning left to the hallway that runs in the middle of EA. Coming from front of EA, there is a ramp on the far right that goes along the left side of Building EB, where you can also turn left towards the same hallway. Facing the hallway from Building EB (aka the front entrance to campus), take the right side hallway with a staircase and a lift available on the left side. If you are coming from Yallamundi off the light rail, take the path (with a bit of an incline) up past Building EH on your left. Continue towards the green lawns in the centre and move on through the winding path past the cafes, towards Building EA. The entrance will be to your left, and from either way you can head up to Level 1.

From the lift, Room 9 will be to the right. From the staircase, the room can be found by turning right towards the bathrooms, and then right again, with Room 9 being on your left. You can read what each room is by its signage, which should look like EA.1.09 (Building, Level, Room).

  • Accessibility

The room has wheelchair accessible tables that are wide and height adjustable. Masking is optional for this event but encouraged, and the space will have air conditioning available. Men's, Women's, and an accessible Unisex bathroom will be available right outside the room. For any accessibility needs or enquiries contact wsup@westernsydney.edu.au.

  • Food

There will not be any catering available for this event, but feel free to bring some snacks for lunch or purchase food from either Parra South's Piccolo Me & Oliver Brown, or from anywhere nearby Parramatta Station.
