Event description

Zionism, Palestine and the Road to Liberation

The true expression of collective solidarity in the face of normalisation, repression and obscuring realities

  • How is the Palestinian struggle against the state of Israel portrayed to the outside world? How complicated is that struggle to understand?
  • Can the Zionist national ideology be described as the embodiment of the Jewish faith?
  • Why is the ‘Jewish state’ of Israel facing growing dissent within the Jewish communities worldwide?
  • Has the Jewish anti-Zionist movement across the world been an effective tool in the global Palestine solidarity movement?
  • What is the difference between concepts of solidarity and normalisation? Where do we draw the line?
  • How can the collective Palestine solidarity movement grow in impact and influence?

To answer all these questions and more, please join us in this in-depth discussion with Ronnie Barkan.

Ronnie Barkan is an Israeli dissident, co-founder of Boycott from Within, Anarchists Against the Wall and current member of Palestine Action. On Nakba Day 2022 he participated in a direct action against the UK headquarters of Israel-based Elbit Systems. Elbit is Israel's #1 arms manufacturer and currently has boots on the ground in Gaza who help to carry out the genocide.

Most recently, Barkan was harassed by the German secret police following his Munich talk at Professor-Huber-Platz, where he connected the legacy of the White Rose who opposed Nazism with direct action in opposition to Zionism.

This event will commemorate Palestinian Prisoners Day (April 17th) which serves as a reminder of the thousands of Palestinian political prisoners and hostages held in the Israeli jails for years and decades. We will also commemorate the martyrdom of the Palestinian activist Bassem Abu Rahma who was murdered by the Israeli army in Bel'een on this particular day during a peaceful demonstration against the occupation and expansion of illegal settlements in the Occupied West Bank.

Join us in this important online conversation on Thursday the 17th of April 2025 a 7PM over Zoom.

This event is hosted by Palestine Justice Movement Sydney and Free Palestine Melbourne, in collaboration with Tzedek Collective, Jews Against Occupation '48, Loud Jew Collective, Justice for Palestine Magan-djin, Palestine Solidarity Network Aotearoa and Northern Rivers Friends of Palestine.

The webinar will be broadcasted nation-wide and will be recorded and published on the hosting organisations' online platforms for future views.
The video recording will also be sent out to registrants afterwards.

The audio recording of this conversation will also be made available on this Palestinian podcast.

All donations will be used to support Palestinian families in Gaza.
