Zouina and Friends Block Party
Description
ZOUINA is back! This time with friends 🧮
ZOUINA & Friends brings you what we feel has been needed - A Block Party for the people.
This event could not happen without the phenomenal creativity and spirit of our community, the Canberra community. For this reason, all funds will solely be going to artists and performers and to the following fundraisers:
Mob Strong Fund Link
Friends of the Congo GoFundMe Link
Activities on the day:
DJs 2pm-late, Lineup TBA 🎧
House and Waacking dance battle and showcase led by Taylor Manalo and Kendall Simmons from Project Beats and community
Art station facilitated by Musonga Mbogo
Second hand clothing market, henna/mehndi station and BBQ fundraiser for Mutual Aid Mob Strong Fund and Friends of the Congo GoFundMe
Art installation by Lucia Webster and Evy Stuart
This ZOUINA & Friends Block Party is to celebrate and pay tribute to the roots of House, Soul and Disco music. We have carefully curated the event to do what we believe will honour these roots, to share wisdom, experiences and knowledge, to carry this history into a future that may seem a little rocky for a lot of us. At the end of the day, art, culture and a sense of togetherness, is all we have. (Important to remind ourselves as this party falls on Election Day).
Location TBA. Location details will be announced on the day and sent to your contact details via tickets. In tough times like these, we really encourage purchasing your tickets early, and we want to be clear that all funds will solely go to paying artists/performers and the stated fundraisers.
As always, remember the Country you are on and take active steps to understand what it means to be on stolen land - share resources together, have the tough conversations and do the right thing by always standing by our Indigenous brothers and sisters, here and across the globe. Please remember that this is on Ngunnawal Country, that it always was and always will be Ngunnawal Country, and that we should listen and engage with Ngunnawal voices on how to respectfully be in relation to Ngunnawal Country.
Entry to this event is free for mob. Please send us a direct message and a ticket will be arranged for you. Similarly, if you are facing financial hardship and would like to attend the event, please reach out, and we can work out a way for you to attend.
