What's happening today - Developments that will help - A vision for the future.


Restore Rodney East is pleased to announce the following speakers to Connect and Inspire 2024!

  • Prof Andrew Jeffs - Marine Science Lecturer the University of Auckland. Discusses helping to heal the Hauraki Gulf, mussel bed seeding to improve coastal environments, and working with iwi and community volunteers and researchers for a better outcome.

  • Ben Paris - Senior Conservation Advisor Auckland Council. Shares his knowledge on the secret life of Pekapeka (Aotearoa-New Zealand's native bats), his research, and his work with community groups in this area.
  •  Dr Cheryl Krull - Conservation Advisor Auckland Council. Discusses barriers and connectivity – two sides of the same coin. Methods for utilising natural and urban barriers to decrease connectivity for pest species.
  • Delma O'Kane - Kaitakawaenga Ngāti Manuhiri Settlement Trust. Taking a look at where we are now and exploring a vision for the next 100 years.

  • Alex Flavell-Johnson - Conservation manager Tara iti and project coordinator for The Shorebirds Trust. Explores wetland habitats in search of critically endangered bittern. Highlights the important role communities can play in bittern conservation, through monitoring and targeted conservation efforts.

Don't miss this amazing opportunity!

  • Doors will open at 9.30 am with tea and coffee available, with an opening at 10am by Ngāti Manuhiri Settlement Trusts Delma O'Kane, and Mahurangi College Kapa Haka group. We will be finishing up around 3pm.
  • Light lunch will be provided, with time to network and connect with speakers, and other group members.
  • This event is aimed at all groups, and volunteers involved in environmental organisations.  We encourage all groups to share this event within your database of environmental heroes!

If you can donate when registering online this koha will go towards the Mahurangi College "Kapa Haka - Rarotonga Cultural Experience Trip" - This group of talented bright young people will be opening 'Connect & Inspire 2024', as well as volunteering their time to set out our lunch and morning tea for the event. Thank you.
