Deadly Thinking Social and Emotional Wellbeing Workshop
Yarning Circle
Tuesday 1st June 9am-4pm
Preece House, Nerang
Deadly Thinking training provides knowledge and teaches strategies in relation to maintaining social and emotional wellbeing and suicide prevention.
Topics included in the Deadly Thinking workshop:
- Yarning – identifying people within family, community, workplace and health professionals, that participants can talk to about problems in their lives
- Worries – identifying contextually specific concerns that affect participants, including: spiritual, cultural, mental, emotional, physical, social and family
- Mental Illness – Anxiety, depression, suicide risks and what to do if you suspect someone you know may be preparing to commit suicide
- Strong spirit – identifying cultural strength: connection to country, spirit within, other cultural beliefs and customs (individual to each community)
- Stigma and Recovery – discussion of stigma about mental illness and mental issues, and how to overcome these problems
- 'What keeps us strong' – linked to worries covered earlier in the day, an opportunity to identify ways & skills to overcome worries/issues
- Guided imagery – meditation exercise
- Information - on alcohol and drug use, insomnia, stress, violence and grief
Deadly Thinking outcomes for participants include gaining the skills necessary to discuss and deal with anxiety, depression and suicide and being able use those skills to help other people in their communities, to live more positive and productive lives.
