Event description

Gugu Yalanji songman JUNGAJI and his band are heading to INALA, south-western suburb of Brisbane, his old stomping ground. He has just launched his new single RENAISSANCE RAMBLER, a rollicking track that ramps up the beat from his soulful RnB flavoured releases that dropped last year (‘Wakka Wakka Woman’ and ‘Pilbara Man’ singles).

Supporting JUNGAJI and his rockin’ band on the night are the strings and stories of the spellbinding grooves of GLING HUNTand The Eatles.

The new song RENAISSANCE RAMBLER speaks of an ongoing story of ancestors fighting for social justice and human rights for Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people which continues to this day, with Jungaji himself being a renaissance rambler who travels the country engaging in various intellectual and cultural pursuits while advocating for the well-being of Indigenous communities in Australia with a renewed commitment to the values of equality and cultural respect within the modern era.

Jungaji said “This song is an ode to my grandfather Pastor Don Brady - he was a philosopher, an innovator and a social rights activist who under the guise of the church had the opportunity to engage with other Aboriginal peoples throughout QLD and NSW when it was illegal for blackfullas to congregate and discuss matters relating to the advancement of Aboriginal affairs, particularly at a time when blackfullas were governed under the Aboriginal Protection Act. It is with absolute pride that I continue to carry grandfathers’ spears and legacy in ensuring his testimony amongst many other great leaders of that time is shared with our younger generations and the broader public and that his achievements are celebrated.  ”

JUNGAJI ‘RENAISSANCE RAMBLER’ SINGLE IS NOW OUT ON ALL STREAMING PLATFORMS (released 1 MARCH 2024) and is the continuation of The Rambler Tour 2024 that started in Cherbourg, South Brisbane, Port Fairy Festival (Vic) and Inala.  With more dates being announced soon - MT NEBO, Cairns, Hopevale.

This COMMUNITY SHOW with JUNGAJI and Special Guests, The Eatles and GLING has been assisted by the Australian Government through Music Australia and Creative Australia, its arts funding and advisory body.
