Anhedonia (n.) - the loss of interest and enjoyment in all activities that you once liked; the feeling of not caring anymore. The reduced ability or inability to feel pleasure often associated with depression.

Pressing Buttons introduces our fifth instalment, Anhedonia. Each event, Pressing Buttons plan on capturing and describing an emotion that one feels in their everyday life, in the hope of conveying to people that they are not alone.

To us, Anhedonia is when the once exhilarating or energising video game, sport or musical instrument ceases to empower you with that raw passion, joy or that distinct loss of track of time that comes from something you love. When drinks with your group or cards with a couple of close friends fail to bring you a true belly laugh or that subtle contentment that comes from smirking at your friend’s classic traits. Anhedonia is the awareness that you feel you should feel an intense pleasure radiating throughout your body, but you feel nothing; like your senses are numbed to any enjoyment transmitter.

We, at Pressing Buttons, want people to know that it is natural to feel Anhedonia every so often, after a hard week or an adverse life event. But if that week turns into weeks or months, please seek help. Speaking to close friends, family and health professionals can have enormous benefits.

We hope to curate an environment where people can find belonging in a collective safe place, through both music and dance. Taking you through this journey are:

Moopie

Bex

Hibiscuskiss (Al Dente and DJ Netburner)

CropTop (Hydra Pyxis and DJ PO)

Insatiable

We will also be hosting the wonderful Ethereal 144 (Instagram here), producing beautiful hand bleached recycled denim. More details to come.

We hope to create a space in which people can fully immerse themselves in the music and lighting arrangements to thoroughly enjoy themselves, dancing care-free. It is therefore of utmost importance to us that everyone on our dance floor is both welcoming and respectful of others. That means we respect others and their dancing and understand that unwanted physical and verbal discrimination against another attendee in relation to their sexuality, race, religion, ability or appearance will not be tolerated.

Pressing Buttons would like to acknowledge that this dance event will be taking place on stolen land - the traditional land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respect to their elders past, and present. Sovereignty has never been ceded. It always was and always will be, Aboriginal land.
