What is Schoolgoers?
Schoolgoers is an NGO enhacing access to education in rural Bihar, India. We have been working with the residents of Ghonghariya village in southern Bihar to build a primary school for local children. Learn more here: https://schoolgoers.org/
Why is the project needed?
Bihar is home to 120 million residents, half of whom are aged under 25. Of all Indian states, it ranks lowest on the Human Development Index. 11% of primary school aged children in Bihar have never attended school, and 49% are at least two years behind their age standard. The state also struggles with teacher absenteeism.
What am I supporting?
Money which Schoolgoers raises is put towards teacher salaries, student resources, other operating costs and future construction. Our Australian team are all volunteers, meaning every dollar goes directly to the project.
Dosa and lassi?
Dosa is a quintessential South Indian food. Think of a thin, savoury pancake. Lassi is buttermilk. When flavoured with mango, it is a bit like a milkshake.
