Event description

1.5-Hour Ghost Hunt at Benledi House and St Helens Community Centre

Unlock the mysteries of the past with a thrilling 1.5-hour ghost hunt at Benledi House and St Helens Community Centre, two of Sydney's most intriguing historical buildings. Both steeped in rich heritage, these iconic locations now stand as community landmarks—but what spirits from their storied past might still linger?

Benledi House, built in 1885, was once the grand home of Alexander Kethel, a timber mercant who was nostalgic of his hometown of Perthshire in Scotland. Its imposing Victorian-style architecture, with its detailed ironwork and stately facade, has stood the test of time. Over the years, Benledi has transformed from a private residence into a hospital, then a library, and now serves the public as a community hub. With such varied and rich history, this heritage site is the perfect location to explore paranormal activity.

St Helens Community Centre, the house attached to the community centre was originally constructed in 1902, has also seen many lives—mainly as a private residence for various families, then accommodation for nurses etc. Known for its Gothic Revival architectural features, the building has stood as a symbol of support for the local community. But who or what might still walk its shadowy halls after dark?

What is a ghost hunt?

A ghost hunt is an exciting, hands-on experience where participants join seasoned investigators to explore haunted locations in search of paranormal activity. Here’s what your night will look like:

1. Introduction & Equipment Briefing*

The event begins with an introduction to the site’s history and known hauntings. Investigators will explain what the night will entail, and will take you on a quick walk around of both buildings.

2. Dividing Into Teams

The group will be divided into smaller teams to cover different areas of the site. Investigators will guide you through various parts of the locations—each with its own ghostly reputation.

3. Investigative Techniques

Participants will use the equipment as they move through the site, paying close attention to sudden temperature drops, mysterious sounds, or strange EMF readings.

4. Exploration of Paranormal Hotspots

Every location has specific areas known for paranormal activity. You’ll visit these “hotspots,” where sightings, noises, and unexplained events have been reported.

5. Debrief & Evidence Review

At the end of the hunt, the group regathers to discuss the night’s findings.

6. Safety & Respect

Throughout the event, there is an emphasis on safety and respect for both the spirits and the location. Investigators ensure the group follows safety guidelines and maintains a respectful approach to paranormal exploration.

Ghost hunts offer a thrilling combination of history, mystery, and personal discovery, allowing participants to experience the unexplained in an authentic and controlled environment.
