Our 1-day workshops are offered on a range of individual Traditional Timber Frames topics. These workshops can be a great introduction to the craft, where we cover the overall theory and provide practical demonstrations on the joinery principles, a detailed look at the design and handcrafting of structural timber joinery, through to a detailed look at the structural and aesthetic design principles ideal for architects and building designers.

Each 1-day course is focussed on the individual topic and can be combined with other 1-day workshops to gain a deeper insight into the overall craft. Our 1-day workshops are offered at various venues around Australia with student numbers set by the needs of the workshop.

Introduction to the Craft

Our 1 Day Introduction to Traditional Timber Framing workshop, covers the full range of topics involved in the design, documentation , joinery practices, timber selection and framing techniques used in the construction of a Traditional Timber Frame. This workshop is provided as a theory and demonstration overview of the craft suitable for a wide range of experience levels. There is no practical component to this workshop, but a full presentation of the various topics is included along with demonstartions on the skilled scribing and joinery techniques.

Students having completed this course will gain an overall understanding of whats involved in the craft and provide a good starting point to either explore other more involved workshops and take their training to a more practical level or to look at the next steps in a project of their own.

Well suited to people looking to begin learning the craft, architects or builders looking for a general understanding of whats involved for a project of their own, or homeowners looking to undertake a project either on their own or in conjunction with Traditional Timber Frames.

This workshop is conducted in a relaxed and friendly learning environemnt with plenty of timber frame and craftsmanship experiences for all. Lunch and light refreshments provided by the legends at The Truffle Farm in Canberra.
