1 SHOT 23 - HOME / AWAY - MELBOURNE

You are invited to join us to celebrate the MELBOURNE opening of 1 SHOT 23 – HOME / AWAY, the second exhibition celebrating the work of Image Makers Association Australia members, a group of Australia’s pre-eminent photographers.

In partnership with Stylecraft, images from members in different states will feature concurrently across its showrooms in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth, with separate opening nights being held in each space as detailed below. The setting brings the imagery alongside a stunning collection of Australian designed and manufactured and international furniture brands represented by Stylecraft on an exclusive basis.

The curatorial theme for this exhibition is HOME / AWAY. Photographers have considered Home or Away as places of memory and possibility, an idea that can be blurred, existing in the past, present and future simultaneously. Home can be thought of as a place saturated with memories, sometimes your own or sometimes other people’s; it might be the place you return to, or you might be spending time in someone else’s - working or taking it easy. Home might also be represented by a person or people we recognise as home because we know when we’re away from them we have a longing to be back with them. Away on the other hand is the opposite of Home - the one step beyond the invisible or visible boundary where you no longer feel ‘at home’; it might be just around the corner, an unfamiliar neighbourhood or a foreign country. It might also be somewhere in between - a place that feels or reminds you of Home, but is far away - a second Home? Perhaps the most appealing thing about Away is that it least resembles Home and all its familiarity and comfort.
